After a night landing at Schiphol, a massage first or sleep first: how to choose

Every late arrival faces the same small question on the walk to the room: is tonight for a session, or only for sleep? There are three sensible answers, and the right one depends less on willpower than on the clock.

A late landing compresses the night. Between reaching the room and needing to be awake there might be eight hours, or only five. Within that space a session can come first, before sleep; it can be placed in the morning, after a short night; or it can wait for the following evening. Each order suits a different traveller, and knowing which is yours makes the first message easier to write.

Session, then sleep

The most common order after a late flight is a session soon after reaching the room, then sleep the moment she leaves. It works when the night ahead is long enough to absorb an hour or ninety minutes without cutting into rest. An oil format suits it, because nothing needs washing off afterwards, and a body just eased out of a cramped seat tends to drift off quickly.

Sleep, then a morning session

Some travellers are simply too tired to enjoy anything after midnight. For them, sleep comes first and the session is booked for the late morning, before checkout or before heading into the city. This is often the choice after a red-eye as well, and the red-eye guide discusses the morning case in more depth.

The following evening instead

When the next day starts early, with a meeting, a tour or a train, the kindest choice is often to leave tonight alone and book the following evening. An evening booking at an airport room still confirms with half the fee, and a city one does too when it is your first. In exchange you get the widest choice of therapists, and nothing is lost by waiting a night.

Telling the thread which order you chose

Whichever order you pick, say it plainly in the first message: tonight straight after landing, tomorrow morning before checkout, or the following evening. The reply then deals with one plan rather than three possibilities, and the start it proposes fits the night you have in mind.

A simple test

Count the hours from the moment you expect to reach the room to the moment you must be up. With seven or more, a session first is easy. With five or six, keep it to an hour, or move it to the morning. With fewer than five, sleep first and book another night. The guide to choosing a length applies the same arithmetic to each length on offer.

Questions

On this guide

Can I decide once I reach the room?

Yes. Nothing is fixed until the start is confirmed, so the choice can wait until you see how tired you really are.

Is a morning session after a late landing possible?

Yes, if checkout leaves time for it. Say in the thread when you need to leave, and the start is set so the session finishes before then.

Does waiting until tomorrow change the price?

No. The fee for each length is the same on any night; only the deposit rules depend on how and when you book.
