Landing late at Schiphol in Amsterdam Dance Event week, and fitting a massage into it
For five days each October the Amsterdam Dance Event fills the city with music, visitors and very late nights. Flights land full, hotels are booked months ahead, and a traveller arriving after dark finds the whole city already awake.
The Amsterdam Dance Event is one of the busiest weeks of the year for the city, spread across clubs, concert halls and conference venues from the centre to the old docklands. Visitors arrive throughout the week, many of them on late flights straight from work, and plenty go directly from Schiphol to a venue. A session that week has to fit around a schedule that runs on the night rather than against it.
A peak date on the calendar
The house names the Amsterdam Dance Event among its peak dates, which means every booking that week confirms with half the fee in advance, city rooms included and even for a guest it already knows. Where to sleep that week
City hotels during the event are dear and often full, and many visitors stay near the airport or further out. An airport room has her journey agreed in the reply, which keeps it predictable even on the week's busiest nights. A central room keeps the forty to sixty minute window from confirmation, as it does in any other week.
Before the night out, or after it
Two patterns work well. Some guests book an hour on the night they land, before the event really begins for them, so the week starts rested. Others book for the afternoon after a long night, when the body wants a slow reset rather than sleep alone; the tantra page describes a format suited to that. Booking in the small hours straight from a club works least well, and the terms are clear that a visit ends at once if the guest is visibly drunk.
Curtains and quiet
Event week means neighbours coming home at every hour of the night. A room high up and away from the lifts, curtains drawn tight and a pair of earplugs for afterwards help the session and the sleep that follows it, whichever of the two patterns you choose.
Write early in the week
With more visitors in town, the roster fills faster than usual. Write as soon as your flight is booked, with the nights you have in mind, and choose from the profiles while the choice is still wide. Moving a date once, to a night within fourteen days and with more than a day's notice, costs nothing.
