Friday is the night Amsterdam fills up. Flights from all over Europe bring in weekend visitors straight from work, hotel rooms in the centre run short, and a late landing has to choose quickly between the airport and the city.
A weekend that starts with a Friday night flight has a shape of its own. You leave the office, sit through an evening departure, and reach Schiphol when the city's bars are at their busiest and its hotel desks are handing out the last keys. The airport or the centre on a Friday
